Over 40 years of history at Village Pottery
We welcome you to Village Pottery, P.E.I’s longest running pottery shop. The 2016 season marks our 43rd summer producing one-of-a-kind pottery, handmade on Prince Edward Island, Canada.
Daphne Large established this quaint and charming pottery shop in 1973. She discovered an available heritage building in New London, which had once been a general store, and opened up Village Pottery.
As each summer passed, more pottery was produced as the business continued to grow. Christine Campbell was hired as a sales clerk and later turned full-time potter. Daphne married Ian Scott, had three children and decided it was time to expand the business.
In 1994, the building was moved down the road and a full pottery studio was built onto the original shop. During this time, Potter’s House Vacation Rental was also added to the business. Over the course of 10 years, Daphne hired and trained a handful of potters, some of which have gone on to start their own pottery shops. Elaborate gardens were added to the front of the building and expanded each summer.
Today, Village Pottery is family owned and operated with Daphne, Ian and their daughter Suzanne. Their son Jack has started to make pottery now too, making it a full family affair!
Our functional pottery is wheel thrown and hand built and finished in a variety of glazes. Our items include mugs, dinnerware, teapots, casseroles, vases, drinking vessels and more. The second level of the shop is an art gallery where you'll find original paintings, fabric art and photography by local artists. You are always welcome to watch our pottery being made in the studio or take a stroll in the gardens.
Our pottery is now available through our online store. We feature a selection of our signature designs, unique pottery jewellery and Island artwork. We are excited to offer this service to our customers to make our products available year round.
We hope to see you at Village Pottery!
